Because Sound Devotion Competition celebrates the fifth year of operations this month, organic_io contacted me with plans to create a mix for the occasion. I offered him to do a show with me instead where we play those tracks.

In the end we decided to do both.  And the show we did can be heard in here! The selection of tracks is done entirely by organic_io, great thanks to him!

If you want to enjoy the smooth DJ mix of 38 minutes of SDC goodness, then click on the album cover, which will take you to SDC bandcamp, which has been specially created for this occasion.

Really excellent IDM from a newly found act Aech Rom, that picture in the header is also connected to his music, it really sounds like the picture, doesn’t it? (Picture itself is made by excellent concept artist Bastien Grivet).

Kaizoku

Lots of time has passed since last show again. Lots of things happened during this period. Including the crash of my computer which put things off for some time. Even now I had technical problems which delayed the broadcast for an half an hour and made me go live with a bit unfinished set.  Sorry for the low volume on voiceover and some glitches in mixing. Going to be lot better next time! :D More…

Second time live, with a terrible hangover from last night which took it’s toll. I forgot to press record button when I went live so 2 minutes of the show beginning were lost forever. Also I accidentally played an old version of Metylonia track. The new one is actually much cooler. Also messed up many pronunciations, like usual. I’ll promise, next time I’ll get pronunciation counseling. (See more for the tracklist) More…

Remixta podcast: Episode Five

Download episode!

And again, DJ Suva from Estonia releases other episode full of awesome music from awesome renoise artists. This time we have four great albums to showcase and other great music, both old and new.

Like every time, every song in this show requires a hilight, but other than album tracks I would like to hilight the great track by DDtMM from year 2006, not much to say: there is a good reason why I would play that old track. Also, special mention goes to the ending track by Joulac. Starting off as really cheesy trackerish house track with a little twist that takes you somewhere totally else.

But who wants to read a lots of words, better start listening!

Tracklist

  1. Polybius – Appleyard
  2. Lackluster – Ism Psm Sm (EP Aeration)
  3. Helvetikone – Bender (Album Bubble Hum)
  4. Charly Linch – The Fall
  5. Next Life – The Reunion (Album The Lost Age)
  6. Next Life – World Map (Album The Lost Age)
  7. mr mark dollin & Alex Strain – Saint Santa (Album mmd_as)
  8. DDtMM – The Breakup
  9. Transient – You and Me
  10. Juolac – Feel Your Heart Started

Albums of Greatness

mr. Mark Dollin and Alex Strain – mmd_as

After long time of work two musical masterminds have created this amazing release free for everyone to listen. Mixture of complex ambient soundscapes, haunting lyrics and impressive rhythm sections are the keywords that can be used to describe this album, but there surely more than just those things that make this release as good as it is.

Remixta plays a track Saint Santa from the album which is a critical view of the commercialized holiday called christmas. This track was also released earlier as a christmas present for the community.

My favourite beside this track is Phoebe, but as said, this album is full
of greatness and you can hear from every single note that those two australian artists have spent more time working with each individual track than many other artists spend time on entire album.

Transient – Symphony of Curves

Transient brings us a new album filled with amazing collage of samples. A downtempo/triphop release which in it’s whole goodness is availabe as a free download for everyone.

Crisp master, positive and groovy melodies together with lots of
variations keep the listener engaged through the entire album and leave them wanting for more. Not much to say here but the same words I left in the Renoise forums under the album thread: This release just pure awesomeness. :)

Remixta plays first track from the album, You And Me. Not neccesarily my favourite track from the album, but as all the tracks are good and have their own special moments full of goodness needed to play I just chose the easy way out and started from the beginning.

Next Life – The Lost age

Something totally unexpected from Renoise scene. Some progressive metal music mixed with chiptune elements, complex rhythmic structures, ripping guitars and various electronic textures. This two man project from norway surely knows what they are doing, and not only on album — they have said to have great live shows. I have heard the claim from many people I trust so I am confident to recommend for you to go and see them next time they perform nearby.

The album contains 16 tracks, each of them less than two minutes long. The short tracks are bit problematic for radio DJ like myself, but together as an album work very well in continous pushing structure.

Remixta plays two tracks from this album.

Helvetikone – Bubble Hum

The artist name is said to be just some random made up word that doesn’t bring too many unrelated google search results, but thanks to the finger of fate the word sounds very close to Helvetin Kone which in finnish means “The Hells Machine”. This is actually what the music sounds like for me. Minimalistic electronica with touch of something really dark and hellish.

How exactly it sounds for you is up for you to decide as Remixta presents track number six, Bender, from the album. It is also interesting to note that the man behind this project is also the man behind Renoise. The allmighty Taktik himself.

Remixta podcast: Episode Four

This time we are looking back into year 2008 and listen to some of the greatest tracks produced in this year. We are concentrating on more heavier electronic dance music, but won’t forget other styles either. There was lots of goodness released in 2008 and although I was trying to be objective, I still couldn’t get over the DJ side in myself and played more on the flow. So many extremely good artists were unfortunately left out cause I just couldn’t fit them in. Don’t worry though, I will play your songs some other time for sure!

Hilights of the show are probably the first track by Polybius and my inability to pronounce some song and artist names. :) I hope anyone doesn’t get offended of me twisting their names. And if you do, please let me know how to pronounce them correctly, so I wouldn’t screw it up next time.

In this episode we also have some great breakcore artists, my favourite Charly Linch, and everybodys favourite Venetian Snares. Also we have pretty cool Trance/House music artist, Scott Althams, who I discovered recently from CC Mixter, thanks to tip by himself. Also, let’s not forget the names of Keith303, an amazing techno expert. B-Complex, true dnb guru. Beatslaughter & ptrance doing an amazing darker techno mix together, and It Alien, super technical artist with musical variation as wide as a national
library.

Special mention goes to Benefit of The Boomerang with a demo track for the shiny new Renoise 2.0, which has had lots of feedback and interest from many people. His usage of bassline is extremely expressive and thanks to the technique the song truly connects to the listener using truly minimal set of instruments.

As a special thank you for the community for helping me to assemble the show, I give away one free renoise T-Shirt to one of the people who helped me. The hand of fortune, who indirectly picked the person, belonged to Taktik. He picked a random number which after some math made the selection. Who actually won the Shirt? Well, listen to the show and find out!

And after you have done listening to the show, go to Renoise.com if you haven’t done it already, and fetch yourself a brand new version of Renoise. I hear this time they give you a nice selection of samples together with the software for free.

Playlist

  1. Polybius – Ephemere
  2. Scott Altham – I wonder If God Was Sleeping
  3. Keith303 – No More Looking Back
  4. Beatslaughter & Ptrance – Crowbar Massacre
  5. She – Gum
  6. Charly Linch – Marbles
  7. Venetian Snares – Gentlemen
  8. B-Complex – Acid Trip
  9. Benefit Of The Boomerang – Jong Belegen
  10. It-Alien – Le Femme Et Le Chien

This time we have collected lots of great and high quality music. The episode seems to slant towards more atmospheric, and even a bit to darker atmospheres, but we also have some happier stuff that makes you want to dance around the room (or at least nudge your head a little bit).

For showcasing, we got our hands on the brand new album by Saine, I couldn’t wait to play it, truly amazing stuff. This is the album of the month (and also album of the year in my opinion). Also, we have exclusive track from Beatslaughter’s upcoming album. This time into IDM genre, but ofcourse with the touch of his other styles, making it one of the most interesting IDM releases I have ever heard.

Enjoy the music, and see you again next year. :)

(Scroll down to listen)

Album Showcase: Saine – Break A Pattern

The best album of this year came late enough to blast everyone else away and probably to pick some berries in the next year as well. Truly amazing chillout/electronica/dubstep, taking the listener on a trip that they will never forget. This album has more warmth and more air than any analogue recordings I have ever heard. This is really pleasurable listen.

Right now you can buy the album from iTunes or Digital Tunes netstores. But according to Saine, it will also become available as a double vinyl in few months.

I have listened to this album obviously more times than it’s healthy and I still can’t get enough of those ambient grooves. Check out the samples in digital-tunes.net, and buy that album! I mean it… Buy it now! NOW! Click click click! :)
